Pepperidge \Pep"per*idge\, n. [Cf. NL. berberis, E. barberry.]
   (Bot.)
   A North American tree (Nyssa multiflora) with very tough
   wood, handsome oval polished leaves, and very acid berries,
   -- the sour gum, or common tupelo. See Tupelo. [Written
   also piperidge and pipperidge.]
